You ask. We answer.
Is NKRC a good fit for my runner?
Probably, yes! NKRC is designed to accommodate runners of all ability and experience levels. In a typical week we have our runners split up into nearly 30 different training groups, from novice runners working on going a mile or two at a time to elite competitors training to win a state championship, and everything in between! We offer multiple workouts a day, the chance to add on mileage at the end of runs, and the options of yoga, strength training, or pool running in place of a morning run, so campers can be sure to train at a volume and intensity that is right for them.
What should I pack?
Below is a suggested list of clothes, equipment and personal items for you to bring. You should be prepared for two runs per day; bring running clothes for a variety of summer weather including rain and cool temps; bring casual clothes for meals (shirt and shoes required in dining hall).
At least 2 pairs of running shoes
Enough running shirts/shorts/socks for 11 runs
Casual clothes and shoes for 7 days including a couple of sweatshirts; it can get chilly in the evenings
Sandals or shower shoes
Pajamas
Phone and charger, headphones
Running watch
Water Bottle
Any snacks you might want to have during the week
Sunscreen
1 set of extra long twin sheets
Blanket or sleeping bag and pillow
2 towels (One for the shower and one for the pool/creek/lake)
Backpack
Toiletries including: toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo
Yoga mat (We have some, but if you are definitely planning on doing yoga and have your own mat, it is helpful to bring)
Bathing suit (campers must wear a bathing suit in the pool, running clothes are not allowed)
Small Fan (The dorms do not have A/C, a fan in the window at night helps to keep the rooms comfortable for sleeping)
Spending money (At least one run will end at a local ice cream shop, and campers are allowed to have pizza delivered from town. The camp also has a store where we will be selling New Balance shoes and camp merchandise. The ice cream shop and camp store both accept credit cards)
What is your refund policy?
We offer full refunds, minus a $50 administrative fee, for cancellations for any reason on or before June 15th. From June 15th through the start of the camp program, we offer refunds of all but the $350 tuition deposit for cancellations for any reason. Once the camp program has started, no refunds are issued for any reason.
What are your camp Covid protocols?
For 2024 NKRC is not requiring campers to have Covid vaccines. At this point we are not anticipating requiring masking during camp, but out policies regarding masking and testing may evolve in response to Covid case loads and severity during the spring and summer of 2024.
Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?
For the most part, yes! Our dining hall has vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options at every meal, and takes care to prepare options that are allergen-free. If you have specific concerns or questions about dietary options, please give us a call to discuss.
Can I be sure that my son or daughter is safe at camp?
Camper safety is our number one priority. Our camp is located on the campus of a Vermont State College, which is staffed with security 24 hours a day. Campers sleep in secure college dormitories and there is a minimum of one adult (usually 2-3) assigned to each suite of campers. We have a registered nurse on staff each week, as well as an EMT and our local chief of police, Jack Harris. The majority of our staff are high school coaches, licensed in CPR and first aid, and our entire staff undergoes a rigorous background check before being hired. While out on runs we break into small groups with a minimum of two counselors per group, ensuring that campers are always accompanied by staff, with quick access to first aid.
Are laundry facilities available at camp?
Yes! Washer/dryer units accept coins, credit card, or mobile app.
Can I come to camp without insurance?
If you do not have medical insurance coverage, you can come to camp only if your parents are willing to certify that they will be responsible for any and all medical charges incurred during camp.
What is the camper age range?
For both weeks, registration is open to all runners entering 7th–12th grade. NKRC's main curriculum is designed for high school-aged runners of all ability levels. We also offer a middle school program which involves a more limited training schedule as well as learning and recreation options geared to the 7th and 8th grade age range.
When should I drop off and pick up my camper?
Campers can be dropped off any time after 12:00pm on check-in day (Sunday July 28th and Sunday August 4th). Campers should arrive by 3:00pm to be fully checked in and ready to go on our very first run around 4:00pm Sunday. Pick up (Sat August 3rd and Sat August 10th) begins at 9:30am. All campers must be picked up by 12:00pm. If you will be arriving late or leaving early, please let us know by contacting our camp directors at 802-265-0004. When you arrive check in on the bottom floor of Bayley dormitory.
What is your policy for campers with bee sting or food allergies?
Campers with a known allergy must bring at least two EpiPens. We will ask to see your EpiPens when you check in for camp. Our dining facility provides allergen information on all food and offers accommodations for those with allergies or in need of special diets such as gluten-free or vegetarian.

There will also be limited edition Northeast Kingdom Running Camp apparel and water bottles for sale, in addition to our past seasons’ merch offered up in our online store. What should I know if I’m staying for more than one week?

Our staff will pick up meals for campers, and campers should bring a minimum of $75 in cash to cover lunch, dinner, breakfast, and lunch in between sessions.
