Northeast Kingdom Running Camp registration is up and running for 2017! We will again have two great weeks of camp this summer, running July 30 through August 5, and August 6 through 12. As always, we are offering a full seven-day week of camp at a great price.

In our first two years, NKRC has hosted over 1,000 campers, who have heard from guest speakers including five Olympians, a Boston Marathon Champion, multiple NCAA all-americans, a best-selling author, and some of the USA’s best high school coaches. We’ve developed unique programs for campers to participate in, including coach Gerry Chester’s advanced running seminar and coach Jim McFarland’s week-long strength training program for distance runners. Our running routes continue to be expanded and refined, and campers will have the opportunity to improve their fitness and challenge themselves on the scenic and pristine trails and dirt roads of the Northeast Kingdom.

This is all the tip of the iceberg; we’re already hard at work to make sure that 2017 offers our most fun, inspiring, and educational weeks of camp yet. Sign up soon, we’ll see you this summer!

Nicole Blood to Speak at NKRC 2015!

Northeast Kingdom Running Camp is excited to announce nine-time NCAA All-American Nicole Blood as a guest speaker for summer 2015!

Blood began her standout running career in Saratoga Springs, NY, and as a high schooler won so damn much that her accomplishments are best listed in bullet form:

  • 2005 USA Junior 5,000-meter Champion
  • 2004 Outdoor Mile National Champion
  • 2003 Indoor 2-mile National Champion
  • 3-time Foot Locker Northeast Region Champion
  • 3-time New York State Cross-Country Champion
  • 2-time New York State Indoor 3,000-meter State Champion
  • 2-time New York State Outdoor 3,000-meter Champion

Hayward Field, 2010

Blood went on to run for the University of Oregon, where she further distinguished herself as a nine-time All-American, three-time Academic All-American, and four-time Pac 10 champion. She is one of Oregon’s most decorated student-athletes in school history, and one of only two Oregon women’s track and field student-athletes to earn All-America honors both in the classroom and on the track for three consecutive years.

After two years as part of coaching staff at Columbia University (2012-2014), Blood is now a sales rep for ElliptiGO’s sports performance team and an assistant coach at Saratoga Springs, her high school alma mater.

Blood stands out for her intense desire to win and her remarkable ability to balance high expectations in school and sport. She’ll bring a wealth of energy and experience to the NKRC speaker’s podium; we look forward to seeing her at camp and hope to see you there, too!

Founders’ Statement

We’re starting Northeast Kingdom Running Camp to give runners and their coaches the best running camp experience in the country. Read on to see what makes our camp stand out.

As co-founders of NKRC, we’re thrilled to start a new chapter in the Lyndonville running camp tradition. Runners have been coming to camp in the Northeast Kingdom for decades, returning again and again because the place and the people who gather there offer something truly special. Collectively, we’ve experienced camp from every angle—as campers, college staff, coaches, administrators, and directors. It’s been a huge part of our lives, and when we saw the opportunity to share the experience with a new generation of runners, we jumped at it. We intend to give campers and coaches the most enjoyable, rewarding, and motivating running camp experience in the country. It’s an ambitious goal, but we have three big things going for us.

Let’s start with our program and people. Our program is designed to help every runner leave camp feeling stronger, smarter, and more excited about running. This includes individually tailored training, top-notch curricula, and all the athletic and educational amenities you’d expect of a college campus. But the true measure of our program is our people—those who return to Lyndonville year after year to share their passion for running. It’s our all-star counselors and coaches who together represent some of the best high school and collegiate running programs in the country. It’s the veteran campers who wouldn’t imagine going anywhere but Lyndonville for running camp. It’s the newcomers who’ve heard there’s something special going on here, who come to take part and add to our rich tradition.

Then, there’s our location in the Northeast Kingdom, named by the National Geographic Society as the most desirable place to visit in the country. Our soft pine needle trails, gorgeous rolling meadows, and quiet dirt roads are a runner’s paradise—the ideal setting for summer training. They offer challenging hills, soft even surfaces, and breathtaking scenery. We have miles of trails right on campus for our morning runs; we also scout out the very best routes in the area and bus campers out to experience them every afternoon. Campers will get a completely new training venue every afternoon, all of which end at pristine creeks where they can dip in the water and soak their legs.

Last but not least, there’s value. We offer the full services and amenities of a college-facility running camp at a price well below that of our competitors. NKRC is built around the things that make a great running camp experience, rather than those that just make a great running camp brochure. This helps us deliver the best camp experience at the lowest possible cost; we pass the savings on to campers and their families.

If you want to know more about what makes the NKRC experience special, ask the coaches and campers who’ll make the trip from Bronxville, Collegiate, St. Anthony’s, Carmel, Griswold, Hall, Glastonbury, Conard, Cheshire, Xavier, Newburyport and North Redding, just to name a few. Better yet, join us this summer. We can’t wait to share NKRC with you.

Amby Burfoot to Speak at NKRC 2015!

Amby Boston Marathon Winner

Boston Marathon Winner, 1968

Northeast Kingdom Running Camp is thrilled to announce Amby Burfoot as our first guest speaker for summer 2015! The author, Runner’s World editor, and Boston Marathon winner will speak at both sessions.

Amby was Connecticut’s high school two-mile state champion in 1964 and went on to run for Wesleyan University (Middletown, CT), where he was a two-time cross country All-American. While still at Wesleyan—and only 21 years old—he won the Boston Marathon.

We invited Amby to NKRC because he connects so easily with runners of all ages and ability levels. His book, The Runner’s Guide to the Meaning of Life is one of our favorites, and we know he’ll lead a great talk and discussion.

Amby is set to speak during first and second sessions, both of which are open for registration. We look forward to seeing Amby at NKRC, and we hope to see you there, too!
